A taxonomic revision of the genus Arthraxon Beauv. (Gramineae) Naturalis
Welzen, P.C. van.
A world-revision of Arthraxon Beauv. ( Gramineae) is presented. Three wide-spread species, A. hispidus (Thunb.) Makino, A. lanceolatus (Roxb.) Hochst., and A. lancifolius (Trin.) Hochst. are very variable and have caused the description of a great number of taxa, most of which are here reduced to synonomy. There are now 7 species and 9 varieties; for 6 of the latter new combinations are proposed. No new taxa are described.

Abnormes Sexualverhalten zusammengehaltener, weiblicher Hemiechinus auritus syriacus (Insectivora: Erinaceinae) Naturalis
Poduschka, Walter.
Two female Hemiechinus auritus syriacus (litter mates) were kept together for 4 weeks and demonstrated intense homosexual activity and prolonged oestrus during the entire period. This resulted also in an unwillingness to mate for one and a half, and two and a half years, respectively. A comparison of this abnormal behaviour and its results, with the different sexual effects described in laboratory rodents and domestic animals, indicated that these wellknown effects cannot be demonstrated in Erinaceinae, the effect of the stimuli being mostly quite contrary.

Ácaros e insetos associados a algumas culturas irrigadas do Submédio São Francisco. Infoteca-e

During Leg 66 eight sites were drilled to form a transect across the Middle America Trench off southwestern Mexico. Cores from these sites show that accretion began approximately 10 MY ago and has continued to the present. Accretion began with offscraping followed by a 2- to 4- MY episode of folding and faulting with uplift rates of 400-500 m/MY; uplift then slowed to 100-200 m/MY, and seismically resolved deformation ceased as the wedge appeared to rise evenly. Approximately 33% of the sediment flux input into the subduction zone, mainly trench sand and slump deposits, is scraped off and incorporated into the toe of the lower slope; an additional 33% is initially subducted but then peeled off to underplate the accretionary wedge; the remaining 33% is...

Accumulation of dry matter and macronutrients by two varieties of sweet sorghum Anais da ESALQ
Rosolem,C.A.; Malavolta,E..
Samples of two varieties of sweet .sorghum (Brandes and Rio) grown on a Dark Red Latosol (Barra Bonita, SP) were collected and analysed (dry matter and macronutrient contents) at intervals of 20 days. Both varieties showed faster uptake of most of the nutrients between flower initiation and head formation. Variety Brandes, in said period, took up more nutrients per day than the other, although its cycle was longer.

Accumulation of micronutrients by sweet sorghum under field conditions Anais da ESALQ
Rosolem,C.A.; Malavolta,E.; Machado,J. R..
Samples of two cultivars of sweet sorghum (Brandes and Rio) grown on a Dark Red Latosol (Latossolo Roxo, Barra Bonita, SP.) were collected at intervals of 20 days during their life cycle and the contents of micronutrients were determined by routine procedures. Usually the physiological stages in which the rate of absorption was higher were not the same for both varieties.

Acrocladium, a synonym of Periconiella Naturalis
Arx, J.A. von.
Petrak (1949) described the genus Acrocladium (type species: A. andinum Petrak) from unidentified leaves of a liane, collected by H. Sydow in 1937 in Ecuador. He compared the genus with Stachybotrys Corda and Sterigmatobotrys Oudem. The type specimen (W) was available for study. The leaves bear several fungi with hemispherical-discoid fructifications, including Asterinella puiggarii (Speg.) Theiss., Chaetothyrina musarum (Speg.) Theiss., and Asterina cf. guaranitica Speg. The fungus described as Acrocladium andinum is hardly visible with the naked eye, but can easily be recognized under a stereo microscope. Petrak (1949) considered this fungus to be a leaf parasite, but it may be also a mycoparasite.

Action de l'acétate de tributyle-étain sur les oeufs et larve D de deux mollusques d'intérêt commercial : Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg) et Mytilus galloprovincialis (Lmk) ArchiMer
Robert, Rene; His, Edouard.
L'acétate de tributyle-étain, qui entre dans la composition de certaines peintures antisalissures, est fortement toxique pour les oeufs et les larves D de Crassostrea gigas a la teneur de 5 p.p.b. (HIS et. ROBERT, 1980).

Robert, Rene; His, Edouard.
The Tributyl tin acetate, a component of certain antifouling paints, has deleterious effects on eggs and D shaped larvae from Crassostrea gigas at 5 p.p.b. (HIS & ROBERT, 1980). Here we have tested concentrations as low as 1 p.p.b. on eggs and on 24 hours old larvae both from Crassostrea gigas and Mytilus galloprovincialis. The same results are got ; this product kills embryos and larvae in a few days ; it prevents growth of 24 hours old larvae exposed to this toxic. Mussels larvae seem to be less sensitive.

Action of growth regulators on flowering and pod production of soybean cultivar Davis Anais da ESALQ
Castro,Paulo R.C.; Moraes,Roberto S..
This research deals with the effects of growth regulators on flowering and pod formation in soybean plant (Glycine max cv. Davis). Under greenhouse conditions, soybean plants were sprayed with 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid (TIBA) 20 ppm, Agrostemmin (1g/10 ml/3 l) gibberellic acid (GA) 100 ppm, and (2-chloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride (CCC) 2,000 ppm. Application of TIBA increased number of flowers. 'Davis' soybean treated with CCC and TIBA presented a tendency to produce a lower number of pods.

Action of growth regulators on production of soybean cultivar Davis Anais da ESALQ
Castro,Paulo R.C.; Moraes,Roberto S..
This research deals with the effects of exogenous growth regulators on production of soybean plant (Glycine max cv.. Davis) under greenhouse conditions, At the flower anthesis, 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid (TIBA) 20 ppm was applied. Other two applications with TiBA, with intervals of four days, were realized. Before flowering, Agrostemin (1 g/10 ml/3 1), gibberellic acid (GA) 100 ppm, and (2-chloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride (CCC) 2,000 ppm were applied. It was observed that CCC and TIBA reduced stem dry weight. Soybean plants treated with TIBA reduced weight of pods without seeds , seed number and seed weight.

Active Tectonics in the Hellenic Trench ArchiMer
Le Pichon, X; Huchon, P; Angelier, J; Lyberis, N; Boulin, J; Bureau, D; Cadet, J P; Blanchet, R; Montadert, L; Dercourt, J; Glacon, G; Got, H; Karig, D; Mascle, J; Ricou, Le; Thiebault, F.
Active deformation of the sea-floor of the Hellenic trench has been observed using the Cyana SP-3000 submersible. The strain pattern observed on a scale of a few kilometers is similar to the one deduced from an analysis of Seabeam morphological maps on a scale of tens of kilometers. The overall strain pattern is compatible with subduction of the Mediterranean sea-floor toward the northeast. It is characterized by underthrusting in the Western Ionian branch and left-lateral strike-slip faulting in the Eastern Strabo branch.
